Q&A: GeoLocs - Powering Geo-Compliance in Brazil

Stuart Godfree

NEXT: GeoLocs recently went live with Brazil's first regulated operator Superbet—what was that process like, and what were some key learnings?

Stuart Godfree: Launching with Superbet as Brazil’s first regulated operator was a significant milestone for GeoLocs. The process involved close collaboration to ensure our geolocation solution seamlessly integrated into their platform while fully aligning with Brazil’s regulatory standards. One of the key learnings was the importance of local adaptation—Brazil’s regulatory landscape is still evolving, so agility and a deep understanding of the market are crucial.

We also reinforced our commitment to maintaining the highest compliance standards by ensuring that all players accessing the platform were within a regulated zone. The successful launch demonstrated that having a geolocation provider with a proven track record in regulated markets is essential for a smooth go-to-market strategy.

NEXT: How does GeoLocs’ technology help operators meet Brazil’s compliance requirements effectively?

Stuart Godfree: GeoLocs makes compliance seamless for operators in Brazil by providing a precise, real-time geolocation solution that ensures only eligible players can access their platforms. One of our biggest advantages is that GeoLocs works directly within the operator’s platform—there’s no need for players to download a separate app, which removes unnecessary friction while maintaining full compliance.

To prevent unauthorised access, GeoLocs verifies player locations using multiple data sources, including GPS, Wi-Fi, IP addresses, and device sensors. This multi-layered approach ensures that even if one data point is manipulated—such as using a VPN or GPS spoofing app—our system can detect inconsistencies and block fraudulent attempts.

For VPN and proxy detection, GeoLocs continuously monitors IP addresses and network behaviour, instantly flagging and blocking connections from known VPN services or suspicious networks. Our system also employs advanced GPS integrity checks to spot anomalies, such as fake location data or unrealistic movement patterns.

Ultimately, GeoLocs is a compliance solution that enables operators to focus on growing their business while staying fully aligned with Brazil’s regulatory requirements.

NEXT: What are some key challenges operators face in ensuring compliance with Brazil’s geolocation rules?

Stuart Godfree: Brazil’s regulatory framework presents some unique challenges for operators, particularly when it comes to geolocation. The country has vast geographic diversity, so ensuring accurate location verification isn’t always straightforward—especially in areas with limited network coverage. Operators need to strike a balance between strict compliance and delivering a smooth player experience, which can be tricky.

Another major challenge is ensuring that only eligible players within approved regions can access betting platforms. With regulations tightening, operators must be extra vigilant in preventing unauthorised access from outside Brazil. This is where fraud prevention becomes crucial—there are always individuals trying to manipulate location data using VPNs or GPS spoofing tools to gain unauthorised access.

At GeoLocs, we take a multi-layered approach to tackling this. Our technology cross-checks multiple data sources—GPS, Wi-Fi, IP addresses, and device sensors—to detect any inconsistencies. We also provide real-time compliance monitoring, so operators are instantly alerted to suspicious activity. By combining these advanced detection measures, we help operators stay fully compliant while ensuring the player experience remains seamless.

NEXT: What trends do you foresee in the evolution of geolocation compliance in Brazil as the market matures?

Stuart Godfree: As Brazil’s market matures, we’re going to see regulators taking a much firmer stance on geolocation compliance. Right now, operators are focused on getting up and running, but as more brands enter the space, enforcement will tighten, and the need for precise, real-time location verification will only grow.

One major shift we expect is the rise of AI-driven fraud detection. Those looking to bypass geolocation measures are constantly developing new tactics, whether through location spoofing tools and plugins, VPNs, or other methods, so operators will need smarter, more adaptive technology to stay ahead. AI will play a huge role in identifying suspicious patterns and blocking unauthorised access before it becomes a problem. As an example, we’re led in the industry in providing a lightweight Web SDK. We are constantly updating and testing it across the whole landscape of browsers to test and track defeat measures and changes in the browsers. Ensuring our customers remain compliant, but not overly penalising their user base with cumbersome location services

We also anticipate stricter cross-border controls. With Brazil being such a vast country and bordering several jurisdictions with different regulations, ensuring only authorised players can access betting platforms will be critical. Operators will need solutions that don’t just tick a compliance box but actively safeguard their business from potential regulatory risks.

At the end of the day, compliance isn’t just about meeting requirements—it’s about building trust with regulators, players, and the industry as a whole. As the market evolves, having a reliable, scalable geolocation solution will be key to long-term success.

NEXT: Why is SBC Summit Rio an important event for GeoLocs, and what are your key goals for exhibiting?

Stuart Godfree: SBC Summit Rio is a crucial moment for GeoLocs—it’s our first time exhibiting in Brazil, and we’re excited to be reinforcing our commitment to supporting operators in this newly regulated market. For us, it’s a chance to connect directly with operators, regulators, and industry leaders who are shaping the future of gaming in Brazil.

Our main focus is to show operators how our alternative geolocation technology can make compliance simple and seamless. We know that geolocation is a critical part of launching in Brazil, and we want to help operators get it right from day one. We’re also looking to build strong partnerships, share insights, and position GeoLocs as the go-to geolocation provider in the region.

Oh, and I’ve never been to Brazil before, so I’m really looking forward to experiencing it properly—starting with a Caipirinha on Copacabana Beach! But first, it’s all about the conference, we can’t wait to meet everyone in Rio and showcase what GeoLocs can do.
